Platinum Sales Systems is the classic example of a company built to fill an unmet need. In 2004, the co-founder, Karen Warner, had just spent a long day viewing a half dozen or more homes. That evening, as she tried to remember the features of each home she obviously referred to the brochures and flyers she gathered from each listing. Something didn't make sense. The lackluster brochures were a poor representation of the otherwise luxurious homes she had seen. Several were poorly printed. Several had very few photos and even fewer details. One had a price reduction scribbled with a Sharpie. One was even in black and white. Overall, the brochures were not near the quality you would expect as representation of the homes she had viewed. There were at least two of the homes she wanted to explore further. She was eager to share her findings with her husband. Baffled by the flyers but not ready to give up, she did what most people would do... she went straight to the Internet. Since each of the flyers listed a website, she thought it would be quick and easy to locate the listings. After all, you can find anything on the Internet, right? It quickly went from bad to worse. Having the web address was just the beginning of an even more frustrating evening. It was the same painful process for nearly all of the homes... land on the Home Page, try a few links in an effort to find the company's listings, search the address, search the agent, and sift through pages of listings searching for the right one. It was a struggle to even find the listing and when she did it was hardly worth the effort. A few tiny photos, the price and the entire home described in less than 1000 abbreviated characters. Even more frustrating were the sites that denied access to the listing information unless she registered and gave up her name and email address. She was already working with an agent and she only wanted to look, why was she forced to reveal her personal information? With a twisted clump of hair in one hand and a Manolo Blahnik in the other, she was ready to drive a heel right through the computer screen. After all, she was prepared to spend a significant amount of money on this home and having so much trouble getting useful information was not what she was accustomed to in this day and age. Why were they making it so hard to buy? Unwilling to sacrifice one of her favorite shoes, she chose a more sensible solution. As a business owner with a marketing background, she was convinced there had to be a better way to serve the needs of Buyers and Sellers while also meeting the needs of real estate professionals.
